Meet new friends. Connect with services in the area. Find opportunities to grow, earn, and learn. The programs shown here are designed to help you and your family work toward self-sufficiency.
Resident Services Coordination
You have someone to turn to in your new neighborhood. Start with your Resident Services Coordinator. They will help you locate community agencies and services as you settle into your new home and continue to support you should questions or needs arise. The Resident Services Coordinator also publishes a monthly doormail telling you about upcoming events, activities, and other important information.
Family Self-Sufficiency Program
When you enroll in this free program, you will have assistance from your Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator to help access services and training programs to help you prepare for better paying jobs. They’ll also provide one-on-one support so that you get the tools and community resources you need to become self-sufficient and reduce your dependency on assistance. Your family also has an opportunity to create an escrow (savings) account. As your family earned income increases, any increase in rent payment you experience will be placed in an escrow (savings) account. The savings is yours upon graduation from the program to use however you like.
Participation in this program is open to both Public Housing Residents and participants in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. Contact your Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator to schedule an appointment to learn if the program is right for your family.
Healthy Home Connections Program
The Healthy Home Connections Program can help you connect with community resources to achieve your family’s goals. Family Support Specialists work with you to manage the struggles of everyday family life and pursue social, emotional, and financial well being.
Moving Ahead Youth Program
This high-quality, state-licensed, afterschool program in the J.W. “Blind” Boone Community Center provides an effective mix of one-on-one tutoring and fun cultural and physical activities for children in Kindergarten through 8th grade. The program operates Monday – Friday from 3:30 p.m to 6:30 p.m. when Columbia Public Schools are in session. Some transportation is available.
Annie Fisher Food Pantry
A visit to the Annie Fisher Food Pantry located at 616 Park Avenue can help growing families in the neighborhood meet their nutritional needs. The food pantry is open every Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is stocked regularly with food from the Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri.
Homeless Resources
A variety of health and Resident Services are available in our community to assist homeless families and individuals meet their basic needs while they are working to become self-sufficient. Many of these agencies also work directly with the Columbia Housing Authority to secure housing assistance combined with support services to enable families and individuals to live as independently as possible.
CHA Safety Department
Dedicated to keeping our properties safe, Columbia Housing Authority offers an onsite Safety Department that strives to ensure the safety of CHA’s residents. Our Safety Officers encourage residents to not only take pride in their housing community but to also report any suspicious occurrence that they may see on CHA property.
Creating and maintaining positive relationships with residents is an essential goal of the Safety Department. Columbia Housing Authority does everything possible to keep our properties clean, safe, enjoyable, drug, and crime free. If you have any questions regarding the trespass list or wish to discuss the health and safety of yourself or anyone else, please contact the CHA Safety Department.
